David Green

David Green (Books) is the imprint under which I published booklets of my own poems. The original allocation of ISBN numbers is used up now, though. The 'Collected Poems' are now available as a pdf. The website is now what it has become, often more about music than books and not so often about poems. It will be about whatever suggests itself.

What's Another Wiseguy Year

Another year, another schedule of concerts, a few choice poetry events but, most importantly with the Wiseguy hat on, another profit to be compiled from the turf.
It isn't getting any easier with today's stone cold solid certainty scraping home by less than a length at 4/6 for me but returned at 10/11, which in the Golden Age of Best Price Guaranteed that has just ended would have paid another few quid and compensated for a loser elsewhere.
It was kind of the bookmakers while it lasted but nothing lasts forever. Henceforth we must be more careful and the profit margin will be affected.
However, the Autumn being over, the compulsion to have a go carries over. Mr. Henderson's strike rate is admirable, Mr. Nicholls might be fading and the Skeltons have been below par all season thus far.
I'm tempted to keep re-investing the amounts that were once the boomakers' but are now mine while I'm on the right side of a few lucky breaks, like Gary Moore's Parikarma at Leicester yesterday that was never going to win until it did. And so we await to see what prices get chalked up about,
Illico De Cotte, 3:00 Wincanton
Call The Dance, 3:30 Wincanton
Centreofattention, 4:05 Wincanton
Coco Mademoiselle,  1:50 Huntingdon
and then decide what to do about it all.

It's a shame that not all Wiseguy appearances here provide hatfuls of winners and I land the income on unadvertised selections. It's not meant to be like that but that is how it sometimes works.
However, looking ahead to Cheltenham week and the Ryanair Chase, the plan is to go to the same lunchtime concert venue with some of the same people as two years ago, have the same bet in the same race except at the odds I could have had it at and that is Allaho that was doing little wrong below the distance in the King George and surely El Fabiolo goes to the Champion Chase and won't be in our way. Hill's are already Non-Runner Money Back and so it could be a shot to nothing.
